Happy New Year to BC beer geeks, Old Yale Brewing is coming back! Old Yale was a pretty cool brewery, brewing out of a strip mall in Chilliwack of all places. Their IPA and Pale Ale were both delightful and I was sad to hear of their demise a couple years ago. Luckily, some passionate beer people purchased the brewery and are reopening it with the same brewmaster and recipes. They are also going to be selling their beer in cans, signalling greater ambition this time around. Here’s the blurb I received:
I wanted to let you know that Old yale Brewing co. is back open and brewing again! It has been purchased by a small group of beer lovers and we have the same brewmaster, Larry Caza. The recipes are the same and the first few batches have come out excellent. Our new group is excited about getting our superb beer to more people.
We have just began shipping beer in large bottles to a few liquor stores in the Chilliwack and abbotsford area. We have a few establishments with our beer on tap again. We are in the very early stages and a lot will be happening over the next month or two.
We will be offering our Sergeant’s IPA and the Old Yale Pale Ale in cans soon.
I’m wishing them a very successful 2012!
Cheers,
Chris

Glad to hear of Old Yale’s revival. IPA and Stout were my favourites. Can’t say I’m a big fan of the branding, though. It looks too corporate. I don’t feel any soul in it.
This is really excellent news for BC (and for me) — both their stout and IPA are sooooooooo quaffable!!
I agree, their IPA and Stout were great. I was also a fan of their Pale ale, not so much the pilsner. As long as the beer is the same or better, I don’t mind the branding. It’s probably good that they have branding this time around, likely means more people will enjoy their beer.
hooray! counting the days to having a sasquatch stout in my hand again. i hope the commercial drive liquor store will one of the first to be supplied!
We have brought back both the IPA and the Sasquatch Stout and have had a fantastic response! Fans of this brew are very pleased to have it back on our shelves.
where is the beer sold?
would love to buy some yale beer- again!
I’m not sure exactly, but I’m hoping it’ll be widely available in BC.
We have the Sasquatch Stout and the Sergeant’s IPA at Whatcom Wine and Spirits. Unit 100-1900 North Parallel Road in Abbotsford! Our craft section is ever growing and includes many faves… Come on down and see me!
Totally agree with above comments. Best stout ever and IPA is a loveley hoppy item. Don;t mind the branding. As a resident of Chilliwack I just love that they’re back and I as well can have a nice OY Stout soon. Worth the drive to Chilliwack. It’s in the Liquor Store by Price Smart downtown.
I hope more Chilliwack residents support OY. I think one of the reasons they fell off the radar is because they had a devil of a time getting the local pubs to carry them. And just because you produce a beer in BC, it doesn’t mean the government liquor stores will carry it.
In both cases, the LDB and the pub owners/managers want something that will sell with very little effort on their part. What sells with little effort, of course, is industrial beer that is heavily advertised. So if OY is to survive, people are going to need to ask for it at local stores and pubs. If enough do, owners will respond.
